Does Fasting Help to Cleanse the Colon?

by The Ultimate Cleanse Team on December 3, 2009

Fasting, either on water or fresh pressed juices is recognized as one of the most effective strategies for improving your health naturally. Even in nature, the first thing that most animals do when sick or injured is to fast. The reason is simple. When you fast, your body doesn’t need to spend energy on digesting food. That means all of its energy can go to healing.

For the past 100 years natural health practitioners have helped hundreds of thousands of people achieve phenomenal results through fasting. Dr. Norman Walker, the inventor of juicing, improved the lives of over 900 people with chronic diseases using a strict 4-6 week diet of nothing but fresh juices. His patients recovered from anemia, healed eczema, eliminated tumors, overcame cancer and more through these relatively long fasts.

But, the important question is: does fasting cleanse the colon? The short answer is yes, but only partially, and the results depend on the length and type of your fast.

On a 1f-3 day water or juice fast, it’s unlikely additional release from the colon. But on a 7-21 day fast on water or on green juices only (spinach, celery, cucumber, kale, etc.) the colon usually releases toxins and undigested food matter. The longer the fast, the better the results.

However, even the longest fasts (30 days) can leave some plaque behind in the intestines. We know this from cleansing experts who regularly see their clients release up to 1 meter of dark rubbery plaque while completing a good herbal detox after fasting.

Is fasting a good strategy for general cleansing? Yes. But is fasting alone the best strategy for colon cleansing? The answer seems to be ‘no.’ A fast of more than 3 days is a positive beginning, but people get much more powerful results by following it with a high quality and thorough herbal detox and cleanse.

A good health practice is to fast for 3-7 days twice a year and follow each of those with an Ultimate Cleanse. That’s what we do here and we always feel better afterwards.
