Natural Cleanse

by The Ultimate Cleanse Team on February 23, 2011

When it comes to cleansing and detox there is a lot of information out there – unfortunately not all of it is accurate.   I’ve written this article to help you get the facts on cleansing before you decide which approach to try.

What Is A Natural Cleanse?

In reality your body cleanses and detoxes itself every day and all day.   Just like the continuing beating of your heart, your detox organs, including the liver, kidneys and colon, work constantly to eliminate threatening toxins and pathogens.   If they didn’t you’d be in trouble.  So, when we speak of a natural cleanse, we’re really talking about ways to support your body to do the job of cleansing better.

There are several kinds of natural cleanse approaches available  The first and most simple – although the most radical – is to go on a complete fast either on water or juices.   Fasting prompts the body to restore and regenerate itself.  A second approach is to switch to a 100% raw food cleansing diet.  Although slower, this approach may have longer lasting impacts.   A final approach is to purchase a quality herbal cleanse.   This is my favorite, since it also involves improving your diet and in my experience is the most powerful and complete.

What Can A Natural Cleanse Do For Health?

The results that you get from a cleanse program depend on how much effort and time you put in and also on the quality of the product or approach you use.   That said major results of following the best programs include:

  • weight loss
  • increasing your energy levels
  • eliminating unhealthy food cravings
  • improving skin tone
  • boosting mood and self esteem
  • improved digestion

Is A Natural Cleanse Safe?

I think that this is a great question because not all programs are safe. Some products actually contain chemical ingredients that can do more harm than good.  Others contain some very aggressive herbs such as senna that can be dangerous if taken in the wrong quantities or combinations.

However, quality programs and approaches are generally very safe since they only work to support the body’s natural functioning.   The vast majority of people who try cleansing have only positive results.  That said, a few people should not cleanse without the advice of a doctor.  These include pregnant and nursing women and people with heart problems and/or high blood pressure.

Some Tips On Purchasing A Natural Cleanse

When it comes to choosing a safe, quality natural cleanse, I recommend thinking about several things.

  1. How long are you willing to cleanse? 5 days is a minimum in most approaches, but longer more gradual cleanses can have more powerful benefits.
  2. What are your cleansing goals? If you need to lose weight quickly, a fast might be your best approach.  If you want to change your lifestyle and overall health, then an herbal detox is better suited
  3. Does the product contain any unnatural ingredients? Believe it or not some products contain things like titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate and more.   These are usually the cheap approaches found in discount stores. Simply avoid them.
  4. Are the herbs safe? Avoid cleanses with “senna.”  You can get the same results with another herb called “cascara sagrada.”

Final Thoughts on Natural Cleanses

The reality is that when it’s well done a natural cleanse can help your body restore its health.  I’ve experienced it many times and have seen 1000s of others do it as well.   And yet you really need to be careful when it comes to choosing the program you follow.
