What Is Internal Cleansing?

by The Ultimate Cleanse Team on April 30, 2010

In the past 10 to 15 years the health industry has seen a rapid growth in the detox and cleansing field. It is now common to see detoxifying treatments offered at hotels, spas and wellness centers throughout the world. Internal cleansing, it turns out, is good business. But only because of the promise it shows for boosting overall health and wellness.

But exactly what is internal cleansing? Internal cleansing refers in broad terms to the practice of working toward detoxifying and cleansing the major internal organs responsible for keeping the body clean. These are the colon, the liver, the kindneys and to a lesser extent the gallbladder. Some cleanses also address the skin, which is actually our largest detox organ. The skin, however, is an external rather than internal organ.

There are many types of internal cleansing programs out there. Some protocols call for addressing just one internal organ at a time. For example a program aimed at cleansing the kindeys might require you to drink extra cranberry juice and consume parsley. Or a liver cleanse, might involve some limited fasting along with taking liver tonic herbs like Milk Thistle or Tumeric.

The most popular and talked about kind of internal cleansing focuses on the colon. The colon is particularly important to health because of it’s role in eliminating the largest amount of waste from the body. Colon cleansing focuses on helping the body to remove this waste as effeciently as possible. It is commonly done using water, which is called Colon Hydrotherpay, though there are also colon cleansing programs based on herbs and other supplements.

In internal cleansing it is preferable in most cases to address all the major organs at once. Perhaps the simplest way to do this is by fasting or following a limited calorie diet. When you do this, the body doesn’t need to spend much energy on digestion and can heal other parts of itself that need attention.

While dietary changes alone have some effect, the most powerful and long lasting type of internal cleansing is cleansing with herbs. During an herbal cleanse you follow the cleanse diet while at the same time taking a variety of herbal forumulas that work to support the internal organs. The results from these kinds of cleanses tend to be the most dramatic.

At it’s best internal cleansing leaves people feeling restored and regenerated, more vibrant, clearer and lighter. It is a positive strategy for weight loss as well as boosting your overall wellness and energy. Given the benefits possible, it’s easy to see why more and more people are choosing internal cleansing to keep themselves healthier and brighter than ever.
