Whole Body Cleanse – What Is It and What’s It Good For?

by The Ultimate Cleanse Team on June 23, 2010

Are you considering completing a cleansing program? If so, I say “good on you.” A cleanse is a powerful and easy way to boost your health and give you more energy. If you’re a beginner there are a few things you should know that will help you get the most out of any cleanse you try.

If you’ve had a look around at cleansing programs you’ll have seen that the most common ones are colon cleanses. It’s true that the colon is vital to radiant health, but it’s not the only organ that’s important. Instead of cleansing just the colon you can go for a whole body cleanse and get more out of the process.

A whole body cleanse is one that addresses all of the major detox organs in one go. These organs are, in order of importance, the colon, the liver, the kidneys and the skin. The colon is important because it’s responsible for eliminating up to 1.5kg of waste from the body everyday. The liver is the body’s major internal detoxifier, while the kidneys serve to filter liquids in the body. And the skin is the largest detox organ of all, releasing toxins through the pores.

All three of the internal organs can be cleansed through a combination of dietary restrictions, exercise and herbal supplementation. A cleansing diet involves eating mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and avoiding processed foods. Exercises that work well for detoxification are jogging, walking, yoga and rebounding on a trampoline. And specific herbs can be used to cleanse each of the organs. Tumeric for the liver and cascara for the colon, for example.

As for the skin, it’s easy to detox through heat (saunas, steam baths), massage and vigorous skin brushing. You can add this to any detox you try. Also try to avoid chemical laden cosmetics and lotions during a cleanse. Go for the natural ones without toxic ingredients.

When you’re preparing for cleansing you might wonder how long a program to do. If you are using fasting, it’s probably enough to do 1-2 days for a start. The cleansing diet is easier and should be around 2 weeks long. Herbal cleanses can last anywhere from 5-30 days. The one I do is a 10 day program. It’s pretty easy to complete and I always feel totally refreshed afterward.

If you’re planning on doing any cleanse or detox please make sure that you are well prepared. Cleansing can be dangerous if it’s done inappropriately. The company producing any product should be reputable. You can contact me if you’d like me to look into any product specifically. Also, you really need to have complete instructions as to how to prepare for the detox, complete it and come off of it. Finally the program you choose should be realistic. Some cleanses out there are just too difficult to fit into daily routines.

The Ultimate Cleanse is my favorite whole body cleanse program. I’ve been using for years and always get fantastic results.
